Chicken wings are a super simple make at home meal, that feels like you are having takeaway! Tandoori chicken wings combines two delicious takeaway options, chicken wings and Indian. If you are a fan of wings, these tandoori chicken wings will have you wanting wings every day. We love to enjoy these tandoori chicken wings on a Friday night, rather than resorting to takeaway.
Tandoori Chicken Wings with Yoghurt Dipping Sauce
We love to eat chicken wings, and ever since we did a month of carnivore style eating in August we have included chicken wings in our weekly rotation. We love to bake our chicken wings in the oven as we don’t have a deep fryer or air fryer. Sometimes we just coat them in olive oil and our favourite spice mix, check out our method here, but we also love tandoori chicken wings with a yoghurt dipping sauce for a change.
Tandoori Paste
When choosing a tandoori paste from the supermarket make sure you read the ingredients as well as the nutrition panel. Remember the ingredients are listed in order of volume, so the first few ingredients at the start of the list make up the bulk of the paste. We try to avoid canola, vegetable and soybean oils as well as sugar where possible, but sometimes this isn’t an option, so we try to find one that has these ingredients towards the end of the list. That way we know there is less of them in the paste.
We also check the nutrition panel to see what the carbohydrates are per serving and what the serving size is. Remember this dish is serving 4 people and we are only using 3 tablespoons of tandoori paste, so the carbs will be spread out amongst all the serves.
Yoghurt Dipping Sauce
What are chicken wings without a delicious dipping sauce? Try this delicious yoghurt dipping sauce with your tandoori chicken wings for a change from the traditional ranch or blue cheese. It is a refreshing combination of fresh coriander (cilantro), yoghurt, lemon and garlic which really pairs well with the richness of the tandoori chicken wings.
Keto Chicken Recipes
Chicken wings are a great keto-friendly dinner option. Not only are they cheap but the meat is juicier and the skin increases the fat content. We previously always used skinless chicken breast in our cooking as it was so low in fat, but we usually steer clear of the dry, tasteless chicken breast now. We choose chicken cuts with skin on and bone in as it is much more tasty and delicious, like chicken drumsticks or wings.
Check out our chicken fajita tray bake using chicken drumsticks which is another great family friendly weeknight dinner. We also love skin on bone in chicken thighs in our roasted chicken thigh and mushrooms and in our sheet pan dinner with feta and olives.
Here are some of our other favourite low carb chicken recipes that are all family friendly;
Tips
- It is best to marinate the chicken wings overnight if possible. This helps the yoghurt to tenderise the chicken as well as the flavour to really develop.
- You can make your own tandoori paste if you have difficulty finding one that is low in sugar.
- The chicken wings will be dark in colour when you remove them from the oven, don’t worry they are not burnt, the colour is from the tandoori paste.
Suggestions
- If you have leftover yoghurt sauce it is really delicious served with any grilled chicken or seafood, or even used as a salad dressing. It is so vibrant and fresh!
- We like to cook these chicken wings on a rack over a baking tray to ensure there is hot air circulating all around the wings. If you only have a baking sheet, you may want to turn the wings over a few times to ensure they cook evenly and are not soggy on the bottom.
