One of our keto mottos is being prepared. Sometimes you don’t always have time in the morning to sit down to a plate of bacon and eggs and you may need to grab breakfast on the run. These 5 easy make ahead keto breakfast ideas will have you ready to rush out the door with breakfast already sorted.
5 easy Make Ahead keto Breakfast ideas
All of these keto breakfast ideas are easy to have prepared in the fridge and can be eaten on the way to work or once you arrive at your work desk. These make ahead keto breakfast ideas are even great to add to the kids lunch boxes for a snack or for their lunch.
1. Chia Pudding
I think chia pudding is pretty much the perfect make ahead keto breakfast option. It requires such minimal effort but you are left with a tasty and satisfying breakfast. It is a nice break from eggs and the other more savoury breakfast options that are typical on a low carb high fat way of eating.
We have a basic recipe here, which gives you a great base and you can then change up the flavours to suit your taste buds. My favourite chia pudding is the spiced coconut recipe you can grab here in our free ebook. You can also never go wrong with chocolate right? Check out this delicious Chocolate Chia pudding.
We love to top our chia puddings to add extra favour and texture. Also by varying the toppings each day you can add some variety to your week, especially if you make a big batch for your work week. Some of our favourite toppings are our keto Granola, fresh or frozen berries, chopped nuts, coconut flakes, nut butters and pumpkin seeds.
A super decadent option would be a dollop of peanut butter and some grated dark chocolate – yum! A dollop of our keto Blueberry Sauce would be really delicious too.
2. Muffins
When eating a low carbohydrate diet, it is common to miss breads and pastries when you first start out. For me, I used to find I particularly missed a sweet breakfast pastry. These sweet or savoury keto muffin recipes are a great alternative to a carb-loaded pastry or traditional muffin and are a great keto breakfast idea.
They are perfect to whip up on the weekend and store in the fridge or freezer for an easy grab and go keto breakfast option. They are best served at room temperature or slightly warm in my opinion and with a nice cup of tea or coffee.
Check out this fantastic 1 Minute Muffin recipe from Libby at Ditch the Carbs. The base recipe uses only 4 ingredients and takes one minute to cook – how easy is that! She has also come up with 5 flavour variations that are both sweet and savoury. This is a great one you can even whip up in your microwave in the office if you measure out the ingredients to take the night before.
One of our favourite make ahead breakfast muffins is this Keto Pecan Cheesecake Muffin, which is sweet option filled with cream cheese and pecans. What is not to like about that. Another favourite is our Keto Breakfast Muffin. This is a lovely savoury muffin which is flavoured with bacon, onion and thyme. It is quite moist and very filling. Perfect with your morning cuppa.
3. Frittata
We always have some serves of frittatas or crustless quiches in our freezer ready to grab and go. They make a perfect to go breakfast or packed lunch for school or work days. You can make a large one and then portion and wrap individually to freeze, or even make muffin sized ones which are perfect for when you are on the go. We love these silicon muffin moulds as they just pop out some easily.
The great thing about frittatas is that you can use whatever ingredients you have on hand, it is a great way to use up leftover vegetables or meats at the end of the week. As long as you have eggs, and we always like to include some sort of cheese, you are good to go.
One of our favourite recipes for a crustless quiche is from the 2 Keto Dudes – Julie’s Crustless Quiche. Such a yummy combination of ham, leek and cheese. We also have a great keto vegetarian frittata recipe on our blog, our delicious Roasted Capsicum and Feta Frittata. The natural sweetness of the roasted capsicums combined with the salty feta cheese is a real winner and a perfect keto breakfast idea.
For a real crowd pleaser you can’t go past our Pizza Frittata, you can grab the recipe here in our free ebook. This one is perfect for kids and adults alike. You get all the tasty pizza flavours, without any of those pesky carbs.
4. Bulletproof drinks
A delicious and filling fatty dink can be a great way to start your day, particularly if you are in a hurry to get out the door in the morning, or are not someone who likes eating breakfast. For a make head option, the night before you could add your ingredients to your to go mug, and then add the hot coffee, water, tea or broth in the morning on your way out the door or once you get to the office.
If you are a coffee lover (like me) check out this great article which goes over the benefits of drinking bulletproof coffee, and the different inclusions you can add in. I usually have a coffee around 10am each day to break my fast. I like to use my cold brew coffee, with either some nut milk or heavy cream, a scoop of collagen powder and a scoop of MCT oil powder (depending on my hunger levels).
Dan is not a coffee drinker, so she likes to come up with alternatives to a traditional bulletproof coffee. On a work day she loves to have a Bulletproof Bone Broth before she heads out the door, or to drink on her commute. This is a great way to incorporate the health benefits of consuming bone broth, along with some salt for your electrolytes and fat to keep you full. Pretty much a prefect keto breakfast option.
We love these to go mugs for when we are travelling or out and about, also to reduce our consumption of single use coffee cups. Great for taking your bulletproof coconut and chai tea for your commute!
Another favourite of Dan’s is our keto Creamy Hot Chocolate recipe. This is a yummy and filling, sugar free alternative to a traditional hot chocolate. Great for a keto breakfast idea if you are on the go, or even for an after dinner treat on a cold winters’s night.
5. breakfast Casseroles
Breakfast casseroles are not common in Australia, but I think they should be as they sound delicious! What is not to like about meat, cheese and eggs baked in the oven until golden brown. They are a perfect make ahead keto breakfast option, as one casserole could cover your breakfast every day for the working week.
A classic combination for a keto breakfast casserole is this Bacon, Egg and Cheese version – Yum! This Sausage and Cheese breakfast casserole from Wholesome Yum looks absolutely delicious too. For our keto vegetarian friends this Vegetarian option from Diet Doctor with olives, tomatoes and cheese would be a tasty option. I also love this Dairy Free option from Low Carb Yum.
