After much toing and froing I finally bit the bullet and purchased Leanne Vogel’s Happy Keto Body 12 week training program. Leanne, of Healthful Pursuit fame, is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the ketogenic lifestyle, in particular in relation to women.

I am most excited about learning how to tailor my ketogenic diet to suit my body’s requirements, fine-tuning my ability to recognise my hunger signals and working on my mindset around my body image.
What is Happy Keto Body?
Leanne’s new 12-week, doctor-approved program is her answer to all the pleas for one primary A-Z resource (with optional group coaching calls) where you can discover how to reset your metabolism, learn to listen to your body, uncover all your healing possibilities and become a fabulous fat-fueled female.
With contributions from Dr. Nina Lewis-Larsson (a certified Naturopathic Doctor), Leanne takes us from the beginning of our keto journey, through life-long keto bliss – dealing with every issue/problem/objection/mistake under the sun.
She’ll show you how to eat to fuel your brain, support your hormones, and surround yourself with meals that will make your friends want to go keto and your doctors stand in awe of your super strong healthy body.
How does it work?
As soon as you sign up you have immediate access to the week one materials, which is great for people like me who need instant gratification! Then each week as you progress through the program a new week opens up. Staggering the material over the 12 weeks of the program.
Each week has a specific theme and includes at least one video from Leanne and one video from Dr Nina around the weekly topic. There is also a range of helpful downloads to go along with each week.
One really beneficial aspect of the program is the ability to order specific blood work which is then reviewed by a medical doctor. The results are then available for you to access yourself online. This is a great resource for anyone based in the US (excluding MD, NJ, NY and RI). This really enables you to have an in depth look at your blood markers, without the need for a compliant doctor.
There is also a download included that details the blood tests you should be monitoring as part of the program, for anyone that is unable to access the online option.

my week 1 take aways
There is A LOT of information in week one which is great for when you are keen to get started, but also a little overwhelming. Included is over two hours of informative videos and 10 seperate downloadable guides.
Leanne goes into detail about calculating macros, what fats to eat, tips for getting started and what exactly to eat. Some of the information was new to me and some was a good refresher.
Who is Happy Keto Body best suited for?
My initial thought is that this program may not be suited to a complete newbie to keto who is coming from a standard carb-filled diet. With Leanne’s approach around food quality and limiting dairy I think this may just be too big of a leap for a complete beginner.
However if you are a beginner who is very open to change and is very motivated to improve your health, this may be the program for you! Leanne and Dr Nina go in-depth into the health mechanisms to explain how a poor diet can impact your health and also how a ketogenic diet can improve your health. There is a lot of science and medical information discussed around hormones and specific pathways in our bodies. Learning this can be a real motivation to make drastic changes for some people. If that is you, you are in the right place.
In my opinion, this program is well suited for someone like me who is experienced with the ketogenic lifestyle and already eating a low carb high fat diet. However, like me, you may not have achieved all of your health or weight loss goals yet and are looking to learn more about how your body functions and tweaking your ketogenic approach to suit your bodies specific needs.
Before the program I was aware of the importance of consuming good quality fats and the impact some poor quality fats can have on inflammation. However, the focus in my diet was more around the macros in the food rather than the quality of ingredients. Week one has been an excellent reminder for me about the importance of food quality and the impact poor choices can have on your health.
From what I have learned I will now be more informed when making decisions in the supermarket, doing my best to avoid junky vegetable oils and choosing the best quality grass fed/pastured raised meats that are available.
Leanne advocates a dairy free ketogenic approach and I am not going to lie, this is very scary to me! I love my cream, cheese and butter. Using these products makes keto easy to stick to for me and I really don’t want to be in a position again where I feel like I am restricted and missing out on foods.
I also know that restricting dairy would be a good experiment for me, and sometimes you need to put on your big girl panties and do things you don’t want to. I know further into the program there is a 3 week elimination section which will help you identify food allergies. So I am starting to prepare myself for that mentally.
I am keen to try one of Leanne’s famous RFLs (Rocket Feul Latte), which is her take on a bulletproof coffee. I haven’t had a chance yet as we were away most of this week, but I will definitely be trying one next week and will report back. I love my coffee with cream so this should be interesting!
Could it be improved?
I certainly cannot fault the program for the quality and quantity of information provided in week one. I am certainly excited for everything I will be learning in the following weeks. Some of the upcoming topics include myth busting, mindset, managing autoimmune conditions and healing hormones.
For me personally, it would have helped to have a to do list or specific steps to take going forward. I work well with a step by step plan, and it would have been good to have a week one check list. This may be included in future weeks though, so I will keep you posted.
