Avocado lovers unite! With this delicious avocado lime dressing, we can now smother everything with our favourite creamy vegetable. You can easily whip up this fresh and zesty dressing at home using a blender, or we used an immersion or stick blender. Once you have taken a few minutes to make it, you can then use it to elevate a boring old side salad or slaw. This dressing has creaminess from the avocado and extra virgin olive oil and tanginess from the Greek yogurt and lime. It is creamy, flavour-packed and also great to serve with tacos or taco bowls.
Creamy salad dressing with no mayo or egg
If you are looking for a creamy and zesty salad dressing, then this avocado lime dressing is exactly what you need. It is deliciously creamy from the avocado and bright from the burst of lime. If you don’t like mayo or can’t eat it, then this recipe is a great alternative for a creamy mayo or egg based dressing.
Drizzle this avocado lime dressing over your favourite side salad or it also goes really well with tacos or on top of a taco salad or taco bowl in the place of guacamole or sour cream. We also love to use it in our Mexican Chicken Salad recipe.
What ingredients are in avocado lime dressing?
Of course, we start with avocado and fresh lime in this avocado lime dressing. We like to use both the finely grated lime zest and lime juice in this recipe to really bring a bright lime flavour. We like to use a microplane to easily grate the zest from the lime and it is best to do this prior to juicing it.
In addition to the avocado and lime we also use extra virgin olive oil, Greek yoghurt, minced garlic (we use the microplane for this too!) with salt and pepper. You can use full fat or reduced fat Greek yoghurt in this recipe, both would work. You can also use coconut yoghurt, it will alter the flavour slightly though.
- avocado
- lime juice & zest
- Greek yoghurt
- extra virgin olive oil
- garlic
- salt & pepper
- water
Serving suggestions for avocado lime dressing
This avocado lime dressing can be used in place of salad dressing or mayo to dress your favourite salads. It has a fresh, vibrant flavour from the lime and creaminess from the avocado. We like to keep it thick, and similar in texture to mayonnaise, but you can also use water to tweak the dressing to your preferred consistency.
Here are are favourite ways to use this dressing,
- On your favourite side salad
- Stirred through canned tuna or shredded chicken
- With a taco bowl or taco salad

- We like this dressing to be thick, but you can use water to thin it down to your preferred consistency. Add the water a little at a time.

Ingredients
- 1 avocado (approx 120g/4oz flesh)
- ¼ cup Greek yoghurt
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- zest of ½ a lime, finely grated
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp cracked black pepper
- water
Instructions
- Add all ingredients (except the water) to a small blender or food processor. We used an immersion blender and a jug.
- Blend until the dressing is smooth and creamy.
- We prefer this dressing to be thick, but you can add water in small amounts to get your preferred consistency. Just make sure you add small amounts of water at a time so you don't thin it out too much.
- Store in a jar or airtight container in the fridge for 4-5 days. The dressing will thicken more as it cools, so again you can add a small amount of water and mix it well to thin it out if you prefer.
Notes
Makes approximately 1 cup. Serving size is 2 tablespoons.
